Letchworth State Park

Explore the “Grand Canyon of the East”

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Letchworth State Park, one of the most spectacular natural destinations in the eastern United States. Known as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” Letchworth stretches across more than 14,000 acres along the Genesee River, where dramatic gorge walls, lush forests, scenic overlooks and spectacular waterfalls create an unforgettable outdoor experience.

The Genesee River cuts through the heart of the park, flowing over three major waterfalls—Upper Falls, Middle Falls and Lower Falls—with Middle Falls plunging 107 feet into the gorge below. In places, the gorge walls rise nearly 600 feet, creating some of the most dramatic scenery in Western New York.

Whether you're visiting for a few hours or planning a full weekend getaway, there's something to discover around every corner.

Explore the Outdoors

With approximately 66 miles of trails, Letchworth offers opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and other outdoor adventures. Scenic roads and overlooks make the park equally enjoyable for those who prefer a leisurely drive and plenty of opportunities to stop, take photos and simply take in the view.

For an unforgettable perspective of the gorge, get out on the Genesee River with Adventure Calls Outfitters for a guided whitewater rafting adventure through Letchworth State Park. The approximately 5½-mile river trip takes paddlers through the heart of the Genesee River gorge, combining fun rapids with spectacular scenery. The experience is designed to be approachable for first-time rafters, families and youth groups, while still providing plenty of excitement. Depending on river conditions, Adventure Calls may use rafts or inflatable sit-on-top kayaks, allowing visitors to experience the gorge even when water levels are too low for traditional rafting.
