Biking Trails

Carlton Hill Multiple Use Area
Located in the Town of Middlebury, Carlton Hill Multiple Use Area (MUA) is a 2,484-acre area comprised of abandoned farmland interspersed with scattered small woodlots that provide a variety of habitat types for many kinds of wildlife. Some trails in Carlton Hill are well marked, while others are more rudimentary. A hidden gem for bikers!

Letchworth State Park Biking Trails
Letchworth State Park, with some of the most magnificent scenery in the United States, comprises 14,350 acres along the Genesee River. There are 28 trails through Letchworth covering 66 miles of park. The attached map outlines which trails permit mountain biking.

Cattaraugus Creek
Cattaraugus Creek consists of 13.8 miles of public fishing rights easements. Each spring, more than 18 miles of Cattaraugus Creek (from East Arcade downstream to the Town Line Road Bridge) are stocked with 12,200 yearling brown trout and 1,950 two-year-old brown trout. In addition, the stream has healthy populations of wild brown and rainbow trout, with recent DEC surveys estimating their combined numbers at 630 adult trout per stream mile.

East Coy Creek
East Koy Creek begins in central Wyoming County and flows southerly, passing through the Villages of Hermitage, Gainesville and Lamont. There are 13 miles of public fishing rights easements on the creek. Each spring, East Koy Creek receives 12,600 yearling brown trout. In addition to the traditional stocking of yearlings, 1,200 two-year-old brown trout averaging 14 inches long are stocked as well. Anglers can also catch wild brown trout and occasionally wild brook trout.

Silver Lake
Located near the Villages of Perry & Warsaw, Silver Lake offers year-round fishing includes largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, bluegill, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, black crappie, brown bullhead. Put in your motorboat at Silver Lake State Park, where a concrete ramp and dock. Ice fishing is also permitted.

Wiscoy Creek
Wiscoy Creek begins in south-central Wyoming County and passes through the Villages of Bliss and Pike. Trout Brook and North Branch Wiscoy Creek are two high quality tributaries of Wiscoy Creek. Combined, there are 14.3 miles of public fishing rights easements on these three streams. Together, Wiscoy Creek, its North Branch and Trout Brook form one of the most productive watersheds for wild brown trout in New York State. DEC surveys estimate an impressive 1,100 adult wild brown trout per stream mile in the Wyoming County section of Wiscoy Creek. Some wild brook trout are found in Trout Brook. Wild brook trout can also be caught in Wiscoy Creek.

Hiking Trails

Beaver Meadow Audubon Center
Beaver Meadow is a 324-acre nature preserve in North Java, NY. The preserve features its namesake beaver meadow with its associated ponds, glacial kettle ponds, wetlands with a boardwalk trail, wooded uplands, meadows, a hawk watch, an arboretum, and eight miles of marked and groomed trails. Beaver Meadow's Administrative Office and main parking is located at 1610 Welch Road, North Java, NY.

Genesee Valley Greenway Trail
The Genesee Valley Greenway is a 90-mile long trail that runs from Rochester down to Cuba, NY and runs along the Genesee River south of Portageville, NY in Wyoming County. The trail includes public, multi-use trail and natural and historic resources. The majority of the trail is an old railway bed that is a straight, level surface consisting of cinders, gravel and mowed grass. The Greenway passes through woodlands, wetlands, river and stream valleys, rolling farmlands, and steep gorges.

Ghost Pond Preserve (Buffalo Audubon Property)
Ghost pond is a 60 acre nature preserve owned by the Buffalo Audubon Society. The trail is approximately a mile long and is low to moderate in difficulty. Ghost Pond Preserve is located on Welch Road in North Java, approximately 1 mile east of Beaver Meadow's Administration Building (located at 1610 Welch Road, North Java, NY).

Letchworth State Park
Letchworth State Park, with some of the most magnificent scenery in the United States, comprises 14,350 acres along the Genesee River. There are 28 trails through Letchworth covering 66 miles of park. Trails range from a half mile to over 21 miles, and are easy to moderate difficulty. Moderate trails have some steep slopes.

Rose Acres (Buffalo Audubon Property)
Rose Acres is located at the intersection of Torry Hill and Java Lake Roads in Java Center, NY (near Java Lake), is a 53 acre preserve that hosts a variety of habitats including mixed upland woods, a small stream, and a 5-acre beaver pond, wildlife abounds. This is a favorite spot for spring wildflower hikes as species such as Trillium, Hipatica and Clintonia are easily found.

Silver Lake Trail Outlet (Perry)
This 1.25 mile roundtrip linear trail is a flat novice hike, taking you along the Silver Lake Outlet. Enjoy wildlife, benches and a wooden bridge overlooking the water. Parking is best off of S. Federal Street, near the Lumberyard Restaurant.

Snowmobile Trails

While visiting Wyoming County, winter outdoor enthusiasts will be treated to over 250 miles of scenic and professionally maintained snowmobile trails where every turn features breathtaking views. We encourage visitors to ride the trails all day, enjoy the beautiful rolling hills of the Wyoming County countryside, and stop into one of our many restaurants that are located trailside, and stay at one of our great local motels or inns.

Byrncliff Resort & Conference Center
Byrncliff is located directly on one of the main trails in Wyoming County and is completely seperate from Byrncliff's cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails. Riders can park their trailers, unload, and be on the trails in 15 minutes. Byrncliff Resort is located at 2357 Humphrey Road, Varysburg, NY.

Canoeing & Kayaking

Paddle in beautiful Silver Lake and enjoy 800 acres of water with a max depth of 37 feet. You can put in at Silver Lake State Park, where a concrete ramp and dock can aid you in casting off. Year-round fishing includes largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, bluegill, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, black crappie, brown bullhead.
