Wyoming County Fun Facts

  • Largest dairy and maple producer in New York state
  • Home to the Arcade & Attica Railroad, one of the only fully operational, steam-operated locomotive in New York
  • The Mount Morris Dam, located at the north end of the park, was completed in 1952 is the largest flood control dam east of the Mississippi River built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

  • The original train bridge over the Genesee River Gorge, was a massive wooden railroad bridge over the Upper Falls that burned down in 1875. A new iron bridge was built shortly after, and a modern steel arch bridge replaced that in 2017—still carrying trains over the gorge.
  • Captured by Seneca warriors in 1758, Mary Jemison the "White Woman of the Genesee" chose to remain with the Seneca people for the rest of her life. Her final resting place is in Letchworth Park, and her story is commemorated at the park’s museum.
