Winter in Wyoming County is nothing short of magical. Whether you're seeking the thrill of a fast-paced tubing run or looking to take it easy on a classic sledding hill, we’ve rounded up the best spots to make the most of the snowy season. Just a short drive from Buffalo and Rochester, these destinations offer outdoor fun for all ages. Bundle up, grab your gear and get ready for a snow-filled adventure!
- Letchworth State Park – When the snow blankets Letchworth State Park, the "Grand Canyon of the East" offers wintry views reminiscent straight out of a picture book. Winter admission is free, making it the perfect time to enjoy a snowy adventure with your family! With 66 miles of scenic trails, you can enjoy everything from hiking to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. For an extra thrill, bring your own inflatable tube and head to Trailside Lodge near the Humphrey Nature Center for a tubing experience like no other. (Note: Rentals are not available, and sleds and toboggans are not permitted.) Need to warm up? Cozy up by the fire pit at the lodge before heading out for more winter fun!
- Byrncliff Golf Resort & Banquets - This is where winter fun meets convenience! For just $5 per person (kids under 10 are free with an adult), you can enjoy their tubing, sledding and snowboarding hill. Forgot your tube? No problem—rent one for just $10 per day (first come, first served). Plus, 12 miles of groomed trails are open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, with rentals available for beginners. Trail hours run from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and extend to 9 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday with lighted trails for those up to a nighttime adventure.
- Arcade Village Park – Located just moments from Main Street, Arcade’s sledding hill is a local favorite. Whether you prefer sledding, tubing or snowboarding, this well-lit hill (open until 10 p.m.) promises hours of small-town fun. Restrooms are available at the base, and nearby pavilions offer a warm(ish!) place to take a break. While you’re in town, stroll along Main Street for a bite to eat, browse local shops or check out other family-friendly activities!
- Warsaw Village Park – Located in the heart of Warsaw, this park is home to an open sledding hill that’s perfect for some winter fun. After a day of dashing through the snow, take advantage of the playground, pavilions and picnic areas. Or, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, head down a trail near the hill to find the frozen Warsaw Waterfalls. Warsaw’s Main Street is just a stone’s throw away, making it easy to warm up with a hot drink and a delicious meal after your outdoor adventure.
